CAU Students and Alumni Rally

September 8, 2004 - Despite the lingering remnants of Hurricane Frances, students and alumni of the Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Studies rallied in support of their beleaguered school.  Several supporters wore signs voicing support for the Library School.  Fact sheet handouts were distributed to passers-by.

The handouts stressed several important points.  One issue is the confusion about SLIS revenue.  SLIS maintains that, taking all sources of revenue together, the Library School provides a  net revenue contribution to the University. The other point is the prospect of continued external support for the SLIS, including possible participation in the Mellon-funded Oberlin Project and ongoing scholarship support from the Gates Foundation. Continued support from the Georgia State Legislature is also expected if the school remains open.

If the CAU board of trustees does not reconsider its decision to close the school, the last semester for the CAU SLIS will be Spring, 2005.
