MALA Holiday Party and Meeting

Friday, December 5, 2010 3-7 pm

The annual MALA holiday party was held at the home of Gardner Neely on Sunday, December 5. Besides nearly all of the 2010 Board, some new as well as longtime friends and members were in attendance, including Tim Wojcik and his wife, Louise White and her husband Lucio, Kay Pinckney, Florence Tang, and librarians Deborah and Regina from Dekalb County Public Library and Georgia Perimeter College.

After socializing and delicious hors d'oeuvres, entrees, desserts, and punch, the group gathered to elect officers and discuss possibilities for programs in 2011.

We discussed a program related to career skills in the spring, to follow on our job search workshop last April. We also discussed the possibility of a field trip, probably after a spring program. The Carter Presidential Library and Archives and the CNN Library were mentioned as options to consider. As had been suggested at the Board meeting last winter, we might consider sponsoring a program in conjunction with the local chapter of the Special Libraries Association later in the coming year. Two officers suggested a MALA book sale. It was also suggested that we consider adding PayPal as a feature on the MALA website as an additional way for members to join or renew their annual memberships.

Our slate of officers for 2011 was then approved. They include:

We thank all outgoing officers for their service in 2010. We also all thank Gardner for hosting our party and meeting, and Thom Shelton for the meeting summary.
